Welcome to the upgraded Codex Alimentarius website!
The upgraded Codex Alimentarius website has been launched in all six United Nations languages, with new features, updated functionalities and more secure and faster access to the Codex Alimentarius itself.
The website has been migrated to a new content management system called Sitefinity replacing an outdated platform and, as regular users will have noted, had become unreliable and vulnerable to security lapses.
The structure of the new site remains broadly the same and regular users will find that core information on meetings, Codex texts and Codex committees, as well as background information on the Codex Alimentarius, all align with users’ existing expectations.
"Our objective has been to preserve the familiar experience that users value while building a modern platform capable of supporting the future evolution of Codex digital services,” says Roberto Sciotti, the Codex webmaster and team lead on the Codex website upgrade. “Behind the scenes, the website has been completely modernized, providing improved security, greater reliability and a solid foundation for new features and services in the years ahead."
The update and migration of the Codex website has been an enormous project, involving over 500 pages in English alone, and translation into the other five United Nations languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish). The website continues to provide easy access to information on the Codex Alimentarius, on Codex meetings and related documents, and all published Codex texts and databases with all related information. Members will continue to have access to registration, commenting and other services as before.
“We are really very happy to have launched this website update,” says Codex Secretary, Sarah Cahill. “It has been a complex job and has been a long time coming but marks an important in our digital transformation. As with all projects of this scale, there will be bugs and glitches that we have not caught despite the intense work that has gone into it. We urge users to use it and report back to us on anything, they think does not seem to be working as expected or that we should be addressing as we refine the site and add content in the coming months.”
