The 22nd Korean Food Safety Day Celebration

Under the slogan “Together for Food Safety, Healthy South Korea”, the 22nd Korea Food Safety Day took place on 12 May 2023, Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Since 2002 this day has been designated for raising awareness about food safety and encompasses two-weeks of campaigns using radio, social media and on-site food safety policy events.

The kick-off event showcased technology and innovation in food safety with a digital food safety platform using QR codes, smart HACCP system using an IoT smart sensor, and an automated import food electronic documents evaluation system (SAFE 24 – Smart, Automatic, Fast, Evaluation).

Opening the event, Oh, Yu-kyoung, Minister of Food and Drug Safety, Republic of Korea said: “This year is even more meaningful for us because it is also the 10th anniversary of our upgrading to ministerial level where we have been operating as a control tower of food safety since 2013. For effectively addressing global environment change and rapid development of science and technology, Korea will focus on digitally shifting food safety administration, strengthening global cooperation, and supporting future food industries.”

Tom Heilandt, Codex Secretary said: “Korea is a great advocate and leader in Codex, supporting the implementation of Codex texts on AMR and helping to improve national food safety control systems in low- and middle-income countries. Korea has also contributed to the Codex Trust Fund, helping more countries to participate efficiently in the work of Codex.”
