Spectacular show in Hong Kong celebrates Codex 60th anniversary

In a burst of colour and sound, taste and vision, the Centre for Food Safety, Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, Hong Kong SAR, China put on a show of local culture and entertainment on Monday 27 March, 2023 for delegates attending the Codex Committee on Food Additives (CCFA).

Local artisans, youth performers and lion dancers were all on show to mark the 60th anniversary of the Codex Alimentarius Commission.

With the presence of Mr. LEI Haichao, Vice Minister of the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China and Ms. YOUNG Bick Kwan, Irene, JP, Director of Food & Environmental Hygiene, Hong Kong, SAR, accompanied by Tom Heilandt Codex Secretary, the local hosts underlined their commitment to the work of CCFA and to the overall goals of Codex in protecting consumer health and facilitating international trade.

In his remarks to guests Tom Heilandt looked back on 60 amazing years. “Codex international science-based food standards, guidelines, and codes of practice have given the world a comprehensive system to ensure the safety and quality of the food we eat. It allows countries around the world to develop their own national food regulations, which are harmonized giving international food trade a safe and fair basis,” he said.
