Codex Trust Fund / New project launched in El Salvador and Guatemala
On 19 and 21 July, El Salvador and Guatemala celebrated the launch of the group Codex Trust Fund project “Food safety and the Codex Alimentarius: impact on productivity and public health in El Salvador and Guatemala.” The launch took place in the presence of the Minister for the Economy (MINEC) and President of the National Quality Council, María Luisa Hayem Brevé, the Director of the Salvadoran Agency for Technical Regulation (OSARTEC), Zaida Guzmán, Codex Secretary Tom Heilandt, and Vice President of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), Diego Varela and the Regional Coordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean, Rommel Bentancourt.

"For El Salvador, it is important to contribute to guaranteeing the production and consumption of safe food, through food standards, also favouring international trade" – said Minister María Luisa Hayem Brevé – “El Salvador, as a member country of the WTO recognises the importance of the Codex Alimentarius Commission for the adoption of standards in production systems and for the control of foodborne diseases".
