Pakistan university celebrates World Food Safety Day
The School of Food and Agricultural Sciences (SFAS), University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore, Pakistan conducted the seminar on “World Food Safety Day” on 7 June 2022. The Director, SFAS, Dr Nauman Khalid inaugurated the event by addressing the linkage of the event theme “Safer Food, Better Health” with SDG 2, SDG 3, SDG 6, and then concluded with SDG 12.
The invited speakers from academia (Dr Muhammad Naeem, Assistant Professor, Department of Food Sciences and Human Nutrition, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore), industry (Mr Zohaib Jamil, Senior Manager Quality Assurance, METRO Pakistan (Pvt) Limited), and certification body (Mr Aamir Shahzad, Manager Food Division, Resource Inspections Canada Incorporated CO. (RICI), Pakistan, emphasized the event theme “Safer Food, Better Health” in their talk by covering national and international scenarios to the audience.
Besides, the SFAS students warmly presented the short videos by capturing the local food safety gaps and advised thumb rules to avoid health-related problems arising from consuming unsafe food in daily life. Afterward, a food safety awareness walk was led by the invited speakers, faculty, and students on the campus. Subsequently, a poster presentation by undergraduate students was also carried out, and evaluated by Director, SFAS, Dr. Nauman Khalid, and guest speakers to ensure the practical execution of the HACCP plan on various food products during processing lines for providing healthy and safe food for consumers.
