Codex elects Guilherme Costa from Brazil as new Chairperson
On Tuesday 18th July at its 40th Session, the Codex Alimentarius Commission elected Guilherme Costa as Chairperson.
Guilherme Costa, a veterinarian by profession, works in the Secretariat of International Business Relations of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply. He has 35 years experience in food safety regulation and negotiation and for over 20 years has been involved in Codex.
On the announcment of Mr Costa's election the delegation of Brazil congratulated the Commission on the quality of both candidates who ran for election, Guilherme Costa and Mahamadou Sako from Mali. They assured delegates that Codex was fortunate to be in a very "safe pair of hands".
Elections for three Vice Chairs take place later today.
