FAO Regional Training Workshop in Tokyo
Enhancing Effective Participation in Codex Activities in ASEAN Countries
Tokyo, 8-11 September 2015
The FAO Regional Training Workshop is organised within the framework of the activities of the FAO Regional project "Support to Capacity Building and Implementation of International Food Safety Standards in ASEAN Countries".
The project, funded by Japan, aims at supporting ASEAN countries to enhance their capacity for contributing to Codex standards setting and participating in Codex meetings.
The workshop is being organised by the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan and the European Commission.
The main objectives of workshop are to provide participants with:
- an enhanced knowledge of structure and functioning of Codex
- an enhanced understanding of the impact of Codex standards on international trade
- training on the development if regional/national positions
- an update on the results of the 38th Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission held last July 2015 in Geneva
- simulated training through mock sessions to enhance participants capacity to contribute effectively to Codex work
The workshop is being attended by 25 participants from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Japan.
