CCNE Highlights Inter-Regional Codex Cooperation at the Third AFRAF Meeting

Dr Intisar Al-Gharibi (Sultanate of Oman), Chairperson of the FAO/WHO Coordinating Committee for the Near East (CCNE), contributed to the Third African Food Regulatory Authorities Forum (AFRAF), held in Cairo between 30 September and 2 October 2026.

Speaking during the Day 2 session, “Strengthening Codex Engagement in Africa: Cooperation between CCAFRICA and CCNE,” Dr Al-Gharibi shared the CCNE perspective on strengthening cooperation between the two FAO/WHO coordinating committees.

The session explored opportunities to enhance African engagement in Codex through stronger expert networks, shared technical and scientific resources, coordination around common standards priorities, and more sustainable support for national Codex programmes. Discussions also considered practical opportunities for interregional cooperation and lessons learned from the Arab Codex Initiative.

Dr Al-Gharibi’s participation reflects CCNE’s continued commitment to strengthening regional and interregional cooperation and supporting effective and sustainable engagement in the Codex Alimentarius process.
