FAO and partners hold World Food Safety Day activities in Tajikistan

In celebration of World Food Safety Day – 7 June 2022, the FAO office in Tajikistan led a scientific conference on the theme "Safer food, better health" with the participation of the national Committee on Food Safety (CFS), Association of Veterinaries of Tajikistan (TVA), scientific institutions, World Health Organization (WHO) and other stakeholders. Issues related to food safety, prevention of zoonoses, AMR were discussed during the conference. The organizers recognize, in particular, Dr Eran for support. The conference was attended by the Deputy Chairperson of CFS, Head of the Livestock Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Representative of FAO to Tajikistan who gave welcome speeches and stressed the importance of this event. Posters and banners were prepared and disseminated for the occasion and leaflets and other relevant materials were shared with participants.

On 7 June 2022, the FAO office conducted an awareness campaign for consumers jointly with the CFS, the Tajik Agrarian University (TAU) and WHO at the large city market of Mehrgon. Student volunteers from the faculty of veterinary medicine distributed leaflets on WHO’s 5 Keys to Safer Food, on AMR and other topics were given to consumers together with explanations of issues related to food safety, AMR and the prevention of zoonoses and reduction of waste.

These events were broadcast by two national radio channels (Sadoi Dushanbe and Radion Tajikistan sent by MoFA) and a TV channel that prepared a TVA clip. FAO also planned to give a presentation on Food safety and AMR in TAU the week after World Food Safety Day.

Codex would have little authority in the field of international standard setting if it did not welcome and acknowledge the valuable contributions made by observers. Expert technical bodies, industry and consumer associations contribute to the standard-setting process in a spirit of openness, collaboration and transparency.

Intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) can apply for observer status in Codex in order to attend and put forward their views at every stage of the standard-setting process.
