World Food Safety Day in Bangladesh
The Bangladesh Food Safety Foundation (BFSF), together with the Bangladesh Supermarket Owner’s Association (BOSA) and the Sabuj Somaj Unnayon Sanstha (SUSS), observed World Food Safety Day 2022.
The Bangladesh Food Safety Foundation (BFSF) and the Bangladesh Supermarket Owner’s Association (BOSA) are the first two organizations in Bangladesh that have been observing World Food Safety Day since 2019. However, in this year an additional four public and civil society organizations also observed the Day. The three organisations, BFSF, BOSA and SUSS observed the day virtually, due to the threat of COVID-19 and for some other constraints.
This year the activities undertaken were as follows:
a) BFSF communications materials such as a) a customized e-poster following the UN e-poster and b) another e-flyer containing the theme, slogan and key messages that were prepared with logos of the three organizations (BFSF, BOSA, SUSS) for dissemination purposes
b) distribution of UN communication materials through e-mail to 380 food businesses and their associations, Apex Chamber bodies such as FBCCI, DCCI, MCCI and its 59 Members, 40 District Chambers of Commerce Members, 362 INGs/NGOs, 116 print and electronic media outlets, 53 diplomatic missions in Bangladesh and 51 International organisations in Bangladesh conveying the UN request to observe the Day
c) informing about our programme for the World Food Safety Day 2022 observance, with an invitation to join the webinar through e-mail to 53 diplomatic missions in Bangladesh and 51 international organisations in Bangladesh
d) upload of World Food Safety Day 2022 communication materials onto BFSF’s website (fsfbd.org)
e) both the UN e-poster, customized e-poster and e-flyer uploaded onto a few non-professional and professional associations’ Facebook such as Bangladesh Agro-processors’ Association (BAPA), Bangladesh Restaurant Owners’ Association (BROA), Bangladesh Fruits, Vegetables & Allied Product Exporters Association (BFVAPEA), Bangladesh Fresh Fruits Importers Association (BFFIA) and Jobs in Café, Restaurant & Hotel Facebook pages.
BFSF also held a virtual seminar on “Food Safety Solution: Bangladesh and the Global context” and “State of the Food Safety System in Bangladesh: Is It on the Right Direction?”

At the heart of the Codex mandate are the core values of collaboration, inclusiveness, consensus building and transparency. Governmental and non-governmental, public and private organizations alike play a vital role in ensuring Codex texts are of the highest quality and based on sound science.
Codex would have little authority in the field of international standard setting if it did not welcome and acknowledge the valuable contributions made by observers. Expert technical bodies, industry and consumer associations
contribute to the standard-setting process in a spirit of openness, collaboration and transparency.
Intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) can apply for observer status in Codex in order to attend and put forward their views at every stage of the standard-setting process.
