In the two short years since the World Food Safety Day was created, we have already seen the engagement and momentum that this campaign can garner from all corners of the industry and around the world. Food safety truly is everyone’s business, and it is heartening to see WFSD participation from the private sector and public sector alike. At the end of the day, we are all consumers and can all join forces behind the vision of safe food for consumers everywhere.

From Uganda to Belgium, Colombia to France, participants showed their collaborative spirit throughout the GFSI campaign for the 2020 World Food Safety Day.  In the week leading up to 7^th June 2020, GFSI shared a video every day – each with its own call to action – and we invited all stakeholders to participate.

1. Day 1: Ensure it’s safe 
   Governments must ensure safe and nutritious food for all. [Monday 1st June]
2. Day 2: Grow it safe 
   Agriculture and food producers need to adopt good practices.
   [Tuesday 2nd June]
3. Day 3: Keep it safe 
   Business operators must make sure food is safe. [Wednesday 3rd June]
4. Day 4: Eat it safe  
   All consumers have a right to safe, healthy and nutritious food.
   [Thursday 4th June]
5. Day 5: Team up for safety
   Food Safety is a shared responsibility. 
   [Friday 5th June]

GFSI invited the community to engage with us throughout the GFSI World Food Safety Week via YouTube, Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn, with the hashtags #WorldFoodSafetyDay and #GFSI. On the 7^th June, GFSI published a mashup video recapping the whole week.

At the Global Food Safety Initiative, we are now looking ahead to how we can best support WFSD 2021, at a time when food safety heroes should be celebrated for their successes amidst the ongoing implications of COVID-19 and equipped to face new challenges as we all navigate a new normal.

One thing is certain – no one country or company can achieve food safety alone and teaming up for food safety is more critical than ever.
