Codex Committee on Processed Fruits and Vegetables (CCPFV) invites participation in its upcoming meeting

CCPFV will be starting its 29th session at a unique location – and all interested countries and recognized observers are invited to participate. In accordance with the guidance of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, CCPFV is continuing its work by correspondence, and to do this, the committee is trying something new. On 2 January 2020, CCPFV will begin its 29th meeting by correspondence on the Codex Online Forum. The CCPFV29 user group is currently active for registered participants and provides a welcome and background information on the meeting. To register countries and observers should follow the instructions on the invitation which can be found on the Codex web site.
Wide participation needed.
The Committee will be following a full agenda, working on five standards (Gochujang, Chili Sauce, Mango Chutney, Dried Fruits, and Canned Fruit Salads). It will also be developing responses to matters referred from the food additives; analyses and sampling; fresh fruits and vegetables committees, as well as considering future work. This meeting will be spread over several months as CCPFV29 works through the agenda. To ensure these standards and the work of the Committee reflect the broadest cross-section of countries and regions, we invite members and observers to participate in this new venue. It is important to have wide participation and achieve a quorum to ensure that the standards are international in scope and reflect the priorities of Codex members.

One of the benefits of holding a committee meeting by correspondence is that travel is not required for participation. As a result, CCPFV29 can provide new opportunities for involvement and collaboration. In addition, participants’ experiences in this meeting by correspondence can be a source of valuable input to the ongoing discussions in the Codex Committee on General Principles on working by correspondence. Registration for CCPFV’s 29th session has been extended to December 15, 2019.

At the heart of the Codex mandate are the core values of collaboration, inclusiveness, consensus building and transparency. Governmental and non-governmental, public and private organizations alike play a vital role in ensuring Codex texts are of the highest quality and based on sound science.
Codex would have little authority in the field of international standard setting if it did not welcome and acknowledge the valuable contributions made by observers. Expert technical bodies, industry and consumer associations
contribute to the standard-setting process in a spirit of openness, collaboration and transparency.
Intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) can apply for observer status in Codex in order to attend and put forward their views at every stage of the standard-setting process.
