World Day Against Child Labour 2016
This year the World Day Against Child Labour, to be celebrated on June 12, concerns children operating in supply chains.
FAO estimates that nearly 60% of child labourers work in agriculture: a sector defined by the International Labour Organization (ILO) as activities in agriculture, hunting forestry, and fishing.
Not all work done by children is considered "child labour", many activities performed in support of the family, for example, that don't intefere with a child's health or schooling can be valuable to an individual's development.
However when the work "deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and is harmful to physical and mental development" then this is the definition of "child labour" and what the World Day is fighting against.
Reducing child labour in agriculture through partnerships

Codex Alimentarius works to ensure that food is safe, of good quality and to ensure fair practices in food trade.

At the heart of the Codex mandate are the core values of collaboration, inclusiveness, consensus building and transparency. Governmental and non-governmental, public and private organizations alike play a vital role in ensuring Codex texts are of the highest quality and based on sound science.
Codex would have little authority in the field of international standard setting if it did not welcome and acknowledge the valuable contributions made by observers. Expert technical bodies, industry and consumer associations
contribute to the standard-setting process in a spirit of openness, collaboration and transparency.
Intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) can apply for observer status in Codex in order to attend and put forward their views at every stage of the standard-setting process.
